Since Revel Events was started, we have been proud to deliver a range of community and corporate events. Following are a few snapshots of some of the events we have helped to create and execute.
Christchurch Holi Festival
Traditionally, Holi is celebrated in India as a day to forget your worries and to come together as a community, with the coloured powder signifying everyone becoming equal. A really positive event in India, we wanted to be able to share this vibrant piece of Indian culture with the people of Christchurch.
The first Holi Festival attracted 1500 attendees. By 2018, we had over 10,000 people in attendance. We also received significant media interest, including TVNZ coverage, Newstalk ZB video and live crosses on the day and The Press and Stuff.co.nz articles, as well as various other media outlets.
We are very passionate about this event and are committed to making the Christchurch Holi Festival an iconic event of New Zealand.
Christchurch Diwali Festival
Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights, is an aesthetically stunning event, designed for the whole family to enjoy. We were commissioned to organise Christchurch Diwali Festival in 2013, 2014 and 2015, with the aim of increasing the attendance and profile of the event.
We managed every aspect of the festival, including event design, logistics, stall holder management, liaison with funding organisations and sponsors, ticket systems management, health and safety management, running the event on the day, and creating post-event reports.
We built attendance up from 6,000 in 2013 to 10,000 in 2015. The feedback from sponsors and attendees has been extremely positive, with all major sponsors returning to sponsor the event, and the number of attendees continuing to grow year-on-year.
Vegan Expo Christchurch
In 2018, the Vegan Expo team contacted us to help them transition their event to the next level. In 2017, the Vegan Expo celebrated a staggering 65% increase in visitor numbers, recording over 5,000 people in attendance, so we were tasked with teaming up with several key sponsors, coupled with increased promotional and marketing initiatives to attract 8,000-10,000 visitors for the expo later in the year. The event will be held at the largest indoor venue in Christchurch, Horncastle Arena.
New premises launch for Switched On
The team at building solutions company Switched On approached us to co-ordinate and manage the opening of their new building in the Belfast Business Park, Christchurch.
Hon Bill English officially opened the new premises 'Hughes House' on Tuesday 1 November, 2017. We organised the catering, staffing and updated the usual ribbon-cutting moment with an element of surprise!
Streets for People
Christchurch City Council (CCC) asked us to organise an event to get locals excited about being back in the central city. For this occasion, we created a carnival street party in Cathedral Square, working with local businesses, and government and private organisations to create a day of family fun.
We organised street performers, dancers and bands, as well as stalls, food, entertainment and bouncy castles for the kids to enjoy. We also organised water activities, including water walkers and bumper boats, and worked with Christchurch Trams to bring people into the city. For a heart-warming, family-friendly twist, with the help of sponsor Spark, we arranged phone boxes with free calling to enable kids to call their grandparents, as well as free WiFi.
This was a unique event that was attended by 23,000 people and was so well received that we still get messages from the general public asking us to run similar events in Christchurch. CCC was also extremely positive about the event.
Evolution Square opening
We were contacted by Ōtākaro Ltd to help open the South Frame’s newest public space, Evolution Square.
We created a festive community street-warming event, working with surrounding businesses to make this launch very special both for businesses in the area, such as Little High Eatery, and the people who work in the area. We had several bands and entertainment for the evening along with visual graphics on a big LED screen. As well as live music and food trucks, we also had fortune cookies and a virtual reality experience.
The result was a welcoming neighbourhood celebration, enjoyed by all who attended. Media coverage included this CTV video.
2018 Smart Cities Christchurch Innovation Expo
Christchurch is all about re-establishing itself as an innovative ‘smart city’, so this was a great event to be part of. The expo focused on local and national innovator’s cutting-edge ideas and approaches to problem-solving – from seismic sensors to augmented reality and autonomous vehicles.
We organised the full expo, including venue liaising, service provider selection and engagement, logistics leading up to and on the day, exhibitor liaison and registration, and making sure all exhibitor requirements were met.
The event was a great success, with around 25 different exhibitors and over 2,000 people attending. It was also covered on TV1 news.
